Festival Variations ° Interview with Pierre Templé
Written by english on 25 avril 2019
Variation by name, variation by nature: in a week-long festival dedicated to music centered around the piano, Nantes welcomes Festival Variations back for its third year. With specialists in classical Bach, contemporary jazz and everything in between, the event has recruited artists from across the globe in a grand celebration of the ivory keys. Based at Lieu Unique, Variations is also hosting performances in venues across the city, including La Cathédrale de Nantes, Le Pannonica and La Chapelle de l’Immaculée.
To tell us more, Variations‘s musical director, Pierre Templé, spoke with Liv Cowle about the ongoing festival. In the interview above, he explains the inclusion of dance collectives in this year’s line-up, and highlights the drive of the festival to promote new pieces as well as the classic works. Pierre also reveals what we can expect from the rest of the festival, including Vicky Chow’s performance of a piece she composed specifically for the festival, and sold-out performance of Dead Can Dance that will bring it all to a grand finale.
Festival Variations is running from Tuesday 23rd to Tuesday 30th April 2019, brought to you by Lieu Unique and Fondation BNP Paribas. For more information, visit their website here.
