Boris Johnson déstabilisé par la crise du Covid-19 ?

Written by on 26 mai 2020

“It won’t be happy of course about the sudden drop in the polls, and also the important point there, is that with the election of a new leader of the main opposition party, so Keir Starmer of the Labour Party, Labour all of a sudden looks like a more viable proposition. This is probably a short-term hit for Boris Johnson and his government. What they don’t know is what happens in the next phase. What if there is now a really extensive recession, and perhaps even a depression ? What does that do to their longer-term electoral prospects ? And that’s a really important issue because Boris succeeded in the last election by winning this host of seats in the North of England and in the Midlands, the so called ‘red wall’. Those could be the areas that are most significantly hit by a recession, so that will be the challenge that they start to think about in electoral terms.”
