Ten years ago, the Dieselgate scandal erupted, exposing how car manufacturers manipulated emissions tests by selling diesel vehicles that released far more pollutants than permitted under environmental regulations.

On May 28th, the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air released a study detailing the long-term consequences of Dieselgate on both public health and public spending.

The findings are alarming: defeat devices used by more than 200 car manufacturers have been linked to about 124,000 premature deaths across the European Union and the United Kingdom.

Jamie Kelly, the lead author of the study, joins euradio to discuss these troubling results.
