Interview with Thomas Burhorn from MEUTE :

MEUTE is a Techno Marching Band – a dozen drummers and horn players from
Hamburg/Germany who fulfil the job of a DJ with their acoustic instruments.
The archaic combination of brass and drums forms the basis of a new genre that
combines hypnotic, driving techno with expressive brass band music. MEUTE frees
electronic music from the limitations of the DJ desk and intensifies the energy level –
on stage or directly in the crowd. Be it in the countryside or in the club, with or
without electricity – MEUTE runs.
MEUTE exploded onto the scene through the viral success of their debut video “REJ”, from
Berlin electronic duo Âme, with over 650.000 Facebook clicks in one week. This created an
excellent base for their further national and international musical success. In just one year,
MEUTE was catapulted into the first row of the most booked festival bands, and since then
has consistently brought audiences to electronic ecstasy on Europe’s stages.
More than 150 concerts played at famous festivals at home and abroad, over 70.000
facebook fans and a permanently rising awareness – this is how MEUTE is launching the
autumn 2017 season. On the 13th of October their debut album “TUMULT” was released
and now the tour through the clubs of Germany, Switzerland and Austria is ahead.

The archaic energy of an 11-piece marching band meets the hypnotic power of techno. The impetuous passion of a crazy marching band finds its new order in the intricacy of electronic music production.
Two years after their inception on Hamburg’s Schulterblatt street the self-styled techno marching band MEUTE is releasing its long-awaited debut album TUMULT. A video of their first guerilla gig has won the band more than 60,000 Facebook fans up to now and catapulted them to the top of the list of the most booked festival bands in Europe. Between what now amount to 150 gigs (Lollapalooza, MS Dockville, Trans Musicales, Dour, Ozora, Paléo, YEAH!, Fusion etc.) the musicians have still found time to go into the studio and record their combination of hypnotically rhythmic techno and expressive brass music. The 2016 tracks already released provide a taster of the style of the album.
“The techno genre is all grown up now. It’s time to acknowledge that with new interpretations and show a different side. Like classical music or jazz,“ according to Thomas Burhorn, trumpeter and founder of MEUTE. “In my view techno is in any case descended from the marching band tradition. So we are taking electronic music back to its roots. And then if one day there’s no more electricity we’ll still be able to throw a techno party.”
The first single “Acamar” (original: Frankey & Sandrino) will be released on 08.09.17, followed by the album on 13.10.17 together with the single “The Man With The Red Face” (Laurent Garnier).
MEUTE will be touring with TUMULT from 16.11.17, performing at 23 clubs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Tickets are available now.
Reactions from the original performers:
“Classy.” N’to
“This is magic.” Gonçalo
“U guys are genius.” Laurent Garnier
“We had teardrops in our eyes.” Frankey & Sandrino
“So who says Germans don’t have the funk???” Âme
“I LOVE it!!!! Such a great arrangement.”

Le 13.10.17 ce sera l’album, flanqué du single “The Man With The Red Face” (Laurent Garnier).
